The Solar Airship is an incredible 8 metres long and looks remarkably like a giant burnt sausage. In fact, it looks just plain remarkable.
But if you're thinking, '8 metres long? I get out of puff blowing up a balloon!' don't panic. The Solar Airship needs no blowing or pumping up, because, as it's name suggests, it is 100% solar powered. All it needs is reasonable sunshine, and you can go from box to sky in as little as two minutes!
The airship is constructed from a high-density, lightweight matt black film. All you need to do is hold open the tube and walk along with it quickly, allowing it to fill with air. The film absorbs the heat and, because hot air rises, the ship rises too! It works on similar principles to a hot air balloon, only using natural heat instead of gas.
It can fly up to about 30,000 feet on a reasonable day!
